During the month of November, your student will be participating in Project Gratitude. This is a journaling exercise that emphasizes having a positive outlook. Your student has created a personal journal in class and is writing everyday about things they are thankful for. When you continuously express things you are grateful for, it trains your brain to begin focusing on things you like about yourself.

We are asking you to write a letter about your student describing all of the things you like about them. A special envelope will hold your letter in their journal.

EXTRA CREDIT

Character Pumpkin Contest

Are you ready for some fun? Here is a chance to get some extra credit and have fun, too!

You will first need to pick one of your favorite book characters from a book you have read during middle school. You will then make a character pumpkin using paint, glue, markers, glitter, yarn, fabric, or whatever you can think of to make your pumpkin unique.

You must write a paragraph telling about your character. Tell the book he/she was in or if this book ever made it to the big screen. You will need to have the title of the book at the top of the paper.

Grading Criteria

5 PTS         ORIGINALITY

5 PTS         CREATIVITY

5 PTS         RESEMBLANCE

5 PTS         PARAGRAPH

You will be graded on the above criteria, which gives you an option for 20 extra credit points.

All pumpkins will be displayed in the library with your typed paragraph next to it. If possible, we will also display the book next to your pumpkin.

There will be a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prize!!!! Good luck!!!!!

This project is due on October 19^th so that I have time to grade them and then put them on display in the library.
